The Maiden of the Woods by Michelle Deerwester-Dalrymple
Kiera's father and his future as a warrior
in the Caledonii tribe was destroyed by the Romans. Now all he does is
lash out in anger at those nearest to him. Will his anger drive Cormac away from Kiera and their hope for happiness?
The
Romans have taken so much from the Caledonii people, Kiera included.
Years ago, her father, Seamus, fought a band of Roman soldiers,
sustaining a dire injury, and has not been the same since. He is angry
and frustrated over losing his position as a warrior in the tribe and he
takes that anger out on anyone who dares to approach him.
Kiera
does all she can to avoid her father's wrath, but her interest in her
brother's friend, Cormac has been steadily rising. Even if she presumed
to show her interest in him, she could never do act on her desires
because of his hatred toward her, and her father who sees Cormac as the walking embodiment of everything her father lost.
Seamus
despises Cormac more than any other man, as he too was injured by the
Romans. Only his wound healed and he remained a Caledonii warrior. A tall, dark warrior who catches Kiera's eye more than once.
When
Kiera finds herself surrounded by Romans one afternoon outside the
gates of the village, it is Cormac who comes to her aid, and Cormac who
helps her find shelter when they are caught in the storm.
And it is Cormac who creates a storm of desire in Kiera. So she is shocked when she learns that his anger visage was a guise, and he has longed for her as well.
But her family, especially her father, is an obstacle in their finding happiness together. Will Cormac and Kiera find the love they have been searching for? Or will her father's anger tear them apart?
